چکیده

We investigate responses of a model for intracellular Ca2+ oscillations to external pulsatile forcing in the presence of additive Gaussian noise. Our results show that noise makes the system less susceptible to external forcing and thus enhances robustness of Ca2+ oscillations. The results can be well explained by the local divergence of limit cycles in the phase space.  2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Capacitative calcium entry in testosterone-induced intracellular calcium oscillations in myotubes.

Ca2+ oscillations are one of the most important signals within the cell. The mechanism for generation of Ca2+ oscillations is still not yet fully elucidated. We studied the role of capacitative Ca2+ entry (CCE) on intracellular Ca2+ oscillations induced by testosterone at the single-cell level in primary myotubes. Testosterone (100 nM) rapidly induced an intracellular Ca2+ rise, accompanied by ...

Oscillations of cytosolic free calcium in bombesin-stimulated HIT-T15 cells.

The mechanism underlying the generation of cytosolic free Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i) oscillations by bombesin, a receptor agonist activating phospholipase C, in insulin secreting HIT-T15 cells was investigated. At 25 microM, 61% of cells displayed [Ca2+]i oscillations with variable patterns. The bombesin-induced [Ca2+]i oscillations could last more than 1 h and glucose was required for maintaining these [C...

GABA-mediated membrane oscillations as coincidence detectors for enhancing synaptic efficacy in the developing hippocampus

Spontaneously occurring neuronal oscillations constitute a hallmark of developmental networks. They have been observed in the retina, neocortex, hippocampus, thalamus and spinal cord. In the immature hippocampus the so-called ‘giant depolarizing potentials’ (GDPs) are network-driven membrane oscillations characterized by recurrent membrane depolarization with superimposed fast action potentials...

Internal noise-sustained circadian rhythms in a Drosophila model.

Circadian rhythmic processes, mainly regulated by gene expression at the molecular level, have inherent stochasticity. Their robustness or resistance to internal noise has been extensively investigated by most of the previous studies. This work focuses on the constructive roles of internal noise in a reduced Drosophila model, which incorporates negative and positive feedback loops, each with a ...
